Windscreen myths, busted
A lot of what people believe about windscreens is half-right at best. Here are the ones we hear most.

The short answer
Small chips do spread, mobile replacements are done the same way as workshop ones, repairs don't always need replacing later, and a windscreen is a structural safety part — not just a window.
Myth vs fact
| Myth | Fact |
|---|---|
| A small chip isn't worth fixing | Chips often spread with heat and vibration. Repair is quick and keeps the original screen. |
| Mobile fitting is lower quality | The glass, adhesive and process are the same. What matters is clean, dry conditions and correct cure time. |
| Any windscreen will fit my car | Glass varies by model, year and options — cameras, sensors, heating and tint bands. |
| A windscreen is just a window | It supports the roof, helps airbags deploy correctly and keeps occupants inside in a crash. |
| Insurance claims always cost my excess | Some policies reduce or waive the excess for glass, especially repairs. Check yours. |
| I can drive straight away | The adhesive needs time to cure. We'll tell you the safe drive-away time. |

Frequently asked questions
How soon can I drive after a windscreen replacement?
The urethane adhesive needs time to cure before the vehicle is safe to drive. Cure time depends on the product and the weather, and we'll tell you the safe drive-away time on the day.
Can I claim my windscreen on insurance?
Many comprehensive policies include glass cover, sometimes with a reduced or waived excess. Check with your insurer first, then let us know your insurer and claim number when you book. See our insurance guide.
My windscreen has a camera or rain sensor. Does that matter?
Yes — tell us when you book. Screens with lane-assist cameras, rain sensors or heated elements need the matching glass and brackets, and some vehicles need the camera recalibrated after replacement. See our ADAS calibration guide.
