Guide
When can I drive after a windscreen replacement?
A new windscreen is held in by urethane adhesive, and that adhesive needs time to reach strength. Driving too soon can let the screen shift or weaken the bond.

The short answer
Wait for the safe drive-away time your technician gives you — commonly somewhere between about one and a few hours, depending on the adhesive, temperature and humidity. Then go easy for the first day: no car washes, no slamming doors and leave any retaining tape in place.
Why the wait matters
The windscreen helps hold the roof up in a rollover and gives the passenger airbag something to push against. Until the urethane has cured enough, the glass can't do that job properly. Cure speed depends on the product, and on heat and humidity on the day.
Aftercare for the first 24–48 hours
- Leave any tape on the mouldings until we say to remove it.
- Avoid automatic car washes and high-pressure hoses.
- Close doors gently — or leave a window open a little — to avoid pressure on the fresh seal.
- Avoid rough roads and heavy loads on the roof racks where you can.
- Don't remove stickers or rego labels from the new glass until the next day.

Frequently asked questions
Can I drive straight after a chip repair?
Yes. Resin chip repairs cure under UV light during the repair, so you can drive away as soon as we're done.
Can I wash my car after a new windscreen?
Hand washing is fine after a day or two. Avoid automatic and high-pressure washes for the first couple of days.
Why is there tape on my new windscreen?
It holds the mouldings in place while the adhesive cures. Leave it on until the time we give you.
