When does a windscreen need replacing?

A replacement is the right call when the damage is too large, too close to the edge or in the wrong place to repair safely. Common signs:

  • A crack longer than a few centimetres, or one that is growing.
  • Damage within the driver's line of sight.
  • Chips or cracks touching the edge of the glass, where the screen carries structural load.
  • Several chips across the screen.
  • Glass that is smashed, holed or delaminating.

What happens during a replacement

  1. We protect the bonnet, dash and paintwork.
  2. Wipers, cowl panels and mouldings come off.
  3. The old screen is cut out and lifted away with suction cups.
  4. The frame is cleaned, the old urethane trimmed and the surface primed.
  5. A fresh bead of urethane is applied and the new screen is set in place.
  6. Trims and wipers go back on, the cabin is vacuumed and we give you the safe drive-away time.

Screens with cameras and sensors

Many newer vehicles have lane-keep cameras, rain sensors or heated glass mounted on the windscreen. Let us know when you book and we'll source the correct screen with the right brackets, and explain whether your vehicle needs its camera recalibrated afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

How soon can I drive after a windscreen replacement?

The urethane adhesive needs time to cure before the vehicle is safe to drive. Cure time depends on the product and the weather, and we'll tell you the safe drive-away time on the day.

My windscreen has a camera or rain sensor. Does that matter?

Yes — tell us when you book. Screens with lane-assist cameras, rain sensors or heated elements need the matching glass and brackets, and some vehicles need the camera recalibrated after replacement. We'll explain what your vehicle needs before work starts.

Is it legal to drive with a cracked windscreen in Queensland?

Queensland roadworthy standards don't allow damage that interferes with the driver's view, and a windscreen with significant cracks can make a vehicle unroadworthy. If a chip or crack is in your line of sight, get it assessed and repaired or replaced promptly.

Can I claim my windscreen on insurance?

Many comprehensive policies include glass cover, sometimes with a reduced or waived excess. Check with your insurer first, then let us know your insurer and claim number when you book so the paperwork lines up.

How long does a windscreen replacement take?

Most car and ute windscreens are fitted in a single visit. Trucks, cranes and machinery vary with the size and type of glass. We'll give you a time estimate when we book.
