Chip & crack repair
Windscreen chip repair before it becomes a crack
A windscreen chip repair fills the damaged spot with a clear resin that bonds the glass and stops the chip spreading. It's faster and cheaper than a replacement, keeps your original screen and can be done on site in South East Queensland.
The short answer
Most stone chips about the size of a twenty-cent coin or smaller, clear of the edge and the driver's line of sight, can be repaired with resin in around 30 minutes. Long cracks, edge cracks and damage in front of the driver need a replacement. Send a photo and we'll tell you which, then do the work on site.

Why you should repair a chip quickly
Queensland conditions are hard on damaged glass. Hot sun followed by air-conditioning, rough roads and car washes all put stress on a chip, and it can run into a long crack with little warning. Once it cracks, repair usually isn't an option and the whole windscreen has to be replaced.
How a chip repair works
- The chip is cleaned and any loose glass is removed.
- A repair bridge is mounted over the damage.
- Resin is drawn into the chip under vacuum and pressure to fill every leg.
- The resin is cured with UV light, then the surface is finished smooth.
Until we get to you
- Put a piece of clear tape over the chip to keep dirt and water out.
- Avoid blasting the air-conditioning or demister directly onto the glass.
- Skip the car wash and avoid slamming doors.
- Don't press on the chip from inside or out.

Frequently asked questions
Can my chip be repaired, or does the windscreen need replacing?
As a rough guide, a small chip — about the size of a twenty-cent coin or smaller — that isn't on the edge of the glass or directly in the driver's line of sight can often be repaired. Long cracks, edge damage and smashed glass need a replacement. Send a photo and we'll tell you which.
Will the chip disappear after repair?
A repair restores strength and stops the damage spreading. Most chips become much less visible, but a faint mark often remains.
Can a crack be repaired?
Only very short cracks are suitable for repair. Longer cracks, or cracks that reach the edge of the glass, need a windscreen replacement.
Can I claim my windscreen on insurance?
Many comprehensive policies include glass cover, sometimes with a reduced or waived excess. Check with your insurer first, then let us know your insurer and claim number when you book so the paperwork lines up.
