Windscreen crack repair — and when to replace instead
A short crack that's caught early can sometimes be stabilised with resin. Long or edge cracks can't, so we'll tell you honestly which option your windscreen needs.
The short answer
Short cracks — a few centimetres at most — away from the edge and the driver's view can sometimes be repaired. Longer cracks, edge cracks and spreading cracks need a windscreen replacement. Send a photo and we'll tell you which.

Repair or replace?
We look at length, position and whether the crack reaches the edge of the glass. If a repair won't hold or would leave distortion in your view, we'll recommend a replacement instead. More detail: can a cracked windscreen be repaired?
Stop it spreading in the meantime
- Keep hot and cold air off the glass.
- Park in the shade.
- Avoid potholes, car washes and slamming doors.

Temperature changes and vibration put stress on the end of the crack, so it keeps spreading. Get it looked at as soon as possible.
